I can honestly say while sitting in a cafe in Dublin waiting for Síle I hadn't been as nervous in years but when this beautiful woman with her glamours style walked through the door her welcoming smile made me realise that a job where I can meet new and interesting people each day is the job for me.
For those of you that don't know who Síle Seoige, she is an Irish radio TV and Radio presenter who really is the person I aspire to be in life. I couldn't have been more shocked at how normal and genuine this lady is I really felt like I was chatting to a normal woman, but while also getting so much advice and help.
I think It's VERY special for a woman who is at the top of her game to take time out to speak to a student but my 30minutes with Síle was so helpful for me and got so much life tips as well as media help.
So when Síle sat down I was immediately buzzing with questions and couldn't wait to start asking them.
Question time...
The first question I had for Síle was where did she study? and I was shocked with her reply. For someone to get to the top and especially a career in media I expected at least degree levels but no...none..I was shocked but that was the first point that made me realise that what you study in college doesn't define your career in the future. However Síle wouldn't recommend this as she strongly believes in education and becoming a master in your area.I was set to study Law in Galway but deferred it for a year and then never got back to it, I found media.
When I asked Síle about the pressure of the industry she just came across as a normal every day girl saying she's a tackie type of girl however loves the glitz...Don't we all..
I also had a massive question in my mind about the difference between radio and TV presenting as I didn't have a clue and she put it very simply for me.
When I asked Síle about her best advice she told me that the best advice she's even been given is to just be yourself, because if your not yourself eventually you will be caught out as you won't be able to keep up the act forever. In television before you open your mouth you need to think about everything else like lights, camera, your hair, make up then in radio you can just show up in your pyjamas..but I never did that yet.
From talking with Síle it really did make me think about life in general, It's very important to have a good circle of friends she told me and she makes sure she surrounds herself with positive people and to also always make up your own mind.
At the end of our chat I asked Síle if she would recommend a career as a presenter and I was shocked with her reply as she wouldn't.
However Síle made sure I understood that I was to live my dream and if a career as a presenter was my dream then I'm to make that happen.I can think of better ways to make a living
I think from meeting Síle I really have opened my mind to everything and I'm ready to say yes!! I think my half hour with Síle made me much more open minded and ready to live life the way it should be lived.
The best piece of advice Síle gave me was
Live your dream,Safe to say my day in Dublin was a day I'll take to my grave and will help me through every aspect of life :)
Wear your passion!!
