The First Day Of Halloween πŸŽƒπŸ‘»

Oi Oi
It's officially here and I couldn't be more excited, now that it's October 1st it's Halloween and I couldn't be any more excited if I tried. Yano that feeling you got as a child on Christmas eve? well, that's right now. Laugh if you must but I adore Halloween for so many reasons it's my favourite day of the year and this post is just a small introduction to why I love Halloween and what's to come on my blog over the next four weeks.
First things first what do I have planned for Little Piece Of Lynda throughout the month of October? Yesterday over on my facebook I gave you a little intro but going into more detail coming this week I have a list of ten spooky alternatives to do over Halloween which has been one of my favorite posts to write. I love a real traditional Halloween but trust me when I say there's so much going on that we've no idea about and just..wow!!
I'm also going to go into the history of Halloween but made super fun, I'll have reviews, movies to watch just so much coming up which I hope you're going to enjoy!!
Now back to my obsession with Halloween, I did write a post about this before which you can check outhere  but summing up that post my love for Halloween goes back years, I was definitely a witch in my past life there's no doubt about it and this year I have my own little black cat 'Luna' as a real life prop so I really am embracing my past life.
Something that's always played on my mind is my childhood and how amazing it was ans one of my favourite memories was October 31st every year, it was the one day a year that truthfully made me so happy I could cry even to this day when thinking about Halloween I could cry with a mixture of happiness and nostalgia if there's one thing I'm sure of in this life it's that my child will have as much fun on Halloween as I did growing up.

My love for the history of Halloween came from my days in primary school, each week our fifth class teacher would make us do a 'know, want to know and learned' on different topics and one week it was Halloween. We got a sheet with the history of the day and that was it I was hooked I think that's where the real obsession came, I knew everything there is to know about Halloween and when it was over I'd cry myself to sleep...weird isn't it?!

I know I haven't really answered why I love the day so much but truthfully I don't know myself all I know is I'm going to do my very best over the next four weeks to make you love it as much as me!! ;)

Also just a little tip if you want to see all my 2016 Halloween posts then click these emojis 'πŸŽƒπŸ‘»' at the end of this post and it will bring you to them all.

Why I Love Autumn And You Should Too

Autumn is my favourite season without a doubt summer is over rated, winter is too cold and miserable but Autumn it's the perfect season. I don't know if I can actually put into words my perfect 'day feeling' like you know a day that like feels ...perfect??? I'd say I've lost you but take away doing anything during that said day like not what you're at it's just the feeling and atmosphere of that day you get me????
Well, my perfect 'day feeling' is in October, early morning with bright blue skies, sun blaring and breathing fresh cold air...that is my perfect day feeling and to me that's what Autumn is all about.
After someone recently asked me 'what's so great about Autumn anyway?' I easily listed off every single thing great about my favourite season so here are 13 reasons why I love Autumn and you should too.

Number 1: Scarves, Hats and Gloves
One of the best things about it being Autumn is that it's finally cold enough to wrap up and get cuddly. I adore scarves and must have at least 57 different colours in my wardrobe just dying to get worn.

Number 2: My Birthday
IT'S MA BIRTHDAY, IT'S MA BIRTHDAY!!
One of my favourite things about it finally reaching Autumn is that on the 21st of August every year it's my birthday and normally I hate becoming that one year older but with turning the big 21 this year I'm so excited that it's finally my birth month.

Number 3: Halloween
One of my most favourite things in the world is Halloween, ask anyone I am obsessed and Halloween is the greatest day of the year. Being honest if Halloween was in Summer, summer could possibly be my favorite season but it's not it's in Autumn and I love it.

Number 4: Bonfires/ Fireworks
Okay....this is controversial becuase I am terrified of fire but when it comes to Halloween I love a good bonfire, there's also nothing I love more than being out strolling around on an Autumn night and hearing fireworks exploding in the sky. As much as it seems to be dying out these days they're strong Autumn loves for me.

Number 5: The Colour
To me the world just gets prettier in Autumn, the leaves turn golden they fall the sun seems brighter the air is crispy everything just looks so so pretty and no one can deny it.

Number 6: Smell Of Wood Fires
When I get the smell of a fire burning wood the first thought that comes into my head is HALLOWEEN!! It's one of my favorite smells in the world and there's nair a wiff of it in the air spring or summer so you have to love Autumn for that reason alone!!

Number 7: Comfort Food
Autumn is all about those real home comforts, pies, soups, stews anything that will warm your insides out thoroughly after a day outside is the perfect food for Autumn.
Tying in with our number 8 is also - Hot Drinks - Hot chocolate on a daily basis, bottles of tea...hot whiskeys ;) ;) ;)

Number 9 - Pumpkins
Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins--- my favourite things in the world are pumpkins!! How can you not love them? Every year I make a big day out of going pumpkin shopping, I get the girls and we head over to the main street to pick the ripest, biggest, most perfect pumpkin that you can buy.
Then there's the carving, the playing with their insides the overall appearance of them.. I just love them!!

Number 10 - Cold crisp morning walks
I love morning walks as it is but when it's early in the Autumn with cold air and mist then I'm the happiest girl on the planet, I love strolling along, ipod on, kings of leon playing...oh the dream.

Number 11 - Rugby
YES - We all know one of the only bad things about summer is the fact the rugby season comes to an end but what happens in September??? rugby is back and weekends are planned around Thomond Park, oh and those Munster hunks are back on the television.

Number 12- Countdown To Christmas
WAHHEYYYY- Yes you know it's true you can finally officially start counting how many Fridays to go before the big man comes down the chimney!!

Number 13 - Out We Go
And on the last note one of my favourite things about Autumn is that it gets dark an hour earlier, and when it comes to a Saturday night that just means you get to go out an hour earlier.. whoop whoop!!

And there you have it 13 things I love about Autumn and you should too..

OΓche Shamhna 2015

Halloween 2013 was a disaster, Halloween 2014 was an improvement but at the same time, still a disaster but Halloween 2015 = unreal.
Halloween for me has to include three things...
1. Friends
2. Fun and
3. Alcohol
and this Halloween consisted of loads of each and that is why Halloween 2015 was the biggest success story in years, I mean no one broke their hand, no one fell and no one cried (well, except for Karen Ryan in the disco) but everything went perfectly and I couldn't have been happier.
This Halloween we celebrated twice, once in Carlow (where I go to college) and once back home in Tipperary. Carlow being the worst of two occasions I will admit. I went as Dorothy from The Wizard Of Oz and got my costume in Party World in Waterford. I love party world, especially at Halloween I am like a child in that store, I really, really am!!
My friends also went all out this year Annmarie and Crellin went as two convicts, Carrie went as superwoman, Aisling went as a cat, Karen went with her inner style and became a '😒gangsta' #thuglife, Craig went as a robber and Paddy... well Paddy just scared me, but overall squad on fleek and we looked the part after Haleigh put blood and what not all over us!!
The girls
(Crellin, me, Annmarie and Carrie)
(Craig and I)
Dorothy and the convict.
Yep I know what you're thinking, that's some nasty gash on my face...all thanks to Haleigh at house of glam ;) but overall I think we looked pretty decent!!
The day began like no other, I was an unorganised mess who still needed to shower, clean, put up and buy decorations and on top of that I was hosting the night's party!! At around 9pm my friends began to arrive and we began the usual pre drinking games and boogied until it was time to head to the disco at 12 o'clock. Before I continue I feel like I should elaborate on 'the disco' as it's usually a talking point amongst my Carlow friends. The disco is the 'nightclub' in my town, it's real name is Utopia but trust me when I say, you will never meet anyone in this town calling it 'Utopia' I mean, trust me - no one!!
So anyway off we went for the disco at 12 and had one of the best nights of our lives, I had never been in the disco when it was so good before never!! and I don't think it will ever be as good again.
We danced the night away until half two after bumping into a few interesting characters before heading on our voyage home (via the kebab shop..hello curry cheese chip!!)
So overall Halloween 2015 was a mammoth success even though it doesn't sound anything extraordinary it's a night I will never, ever forget!! And if there's one thing I've learned this Halloween it's that  'It's never too late to make something right.' and on that note Halloween 2015...over and out!!

History Of Samhain

Sit back and enjoy the... History Of Halloween

IT'S HALLOWEEN!!!! - Halloween is and always has been my favourite day of the year.
For most people Halloween is a day/night of mischief and blaguarding but for me It's so much more. It's a day of History for me, not boring history that I don't like, but proper decent history on what has to be the most magical day of the year, a day when the dead can walk amongst the living a day filled of hocus pocus and not to mention a day of sweets!!!!!! Since I was a young child Halloween has always had some effect on me and not many people understand why we even celebrate this weird day, well in the most dummy proof way I'm about to tell you the brief story behind Samhain *cue the spooky music*

Halloween began in Celtic Ireland BC, and Halloween back then was called 'Samhain', this was a celtic celebration for summer's end. Halloween, which was held on November 1st was the one day a year where the season of life met the season of death and spirits could rise from their graves and walk amongst the living.
As expected this would be a scary day for the celts so what did they do?
They used to dress up, in costumes and wear masks as to confuse and rebel against the spirits the lit huge roaring bonfires in hope to scare away the spirits, which is of course where the tradition of dressing up and lighting bonfires comes from.
Over time the name 'Samhain' was changed to 'All Hallows Eve' the night before 'All Hallows day' a day to honour all saints on November 1st and from there it was a short walk to the name we all know today..
HALLOWEEN.
It was during the Irish potato famine in 1800's when thousands of starving Irish fled to America that they brought their weird customs with them. This was where Halloween began to change. Halloween became a night for mischief. Young pranksters began to unhinge gates, eventually the elderly who were fed up with these blaguards decided to hold a parties for them to keep them entertained and out of trouble which is in fact where Halloween parties came from...all making sense now? ;)
And if you're like me and are hosting a party tonight there's this brilliant party game app I've found which you need to check out here:
Now, the Jack O'Lanterns.. this is one of my favorite parts of history, I'm obsessed with pumpkins!!! And once again, it began in Ireland. Pumpkins weren't always used to make Jack O'Lanterns, they started out using turnips. Irish legends tell the tale of a mean and stingy man named Jack. He was such an evil man that he tried to trick the devil, in the end he was so horrible that even the devil turned him away into the night only allowing Jack to carry a hollowed out turnip with a candle in it for light. Yet again as the Irish folklore was dragged across the Atlantic pumpkins were used to replace turnips and still to this day it's not Halloween without a Jack O'Lantern.

And so the Halloween history continues, the origins of Trick Or Treating (Going on the boogie) are simple. It began when the poorest of people would go from door to door begging for food, they would be given small cakes called Soul Cakes (Smaller versions of the Bairin Breac we eat today) and in return they would pray for the dead relatives of the people.
And there you have it, the summed up history of Halloween.. it's seriously impressive isn't it? the history of Halloween is something which I could talk about forever and I hope it's cleared up why we're celebrating today for you!!
Happy Halloween Everyone :)

Top Three Things To Make This Halloween

Halloween is my favourite day of the year, I love it and every Halloween I go to town on the decorations and treats and this year is no different as I've officially began my Halloween prep. Every year I make a few essentials that look great but are so easy to create, things like popcorn hands, a pumpkin cake and the trusty ghostly buns, three things that take pride of place in my kitchen during the Halloween season and I've decided to share my favourite recipes with you!!

1. Ghostly Cupcakes - These things are my favourite and they couldn't be easier to make, I mean trust me they are the easiest thing in the world to make and look how impressive looking they are?!  All you need to make these buns is white ready to roll icing, a package of cupcakes (or you can make them yourself) and a package of chocolate chips. You simply remove the paper casing on the cupcake, roll out a piece of ready to roll icing and place on top of the cupcake. Then finish off with two chocolate chips for eyes and you're done - Amazing, I know!!

2. Horredible Hands - These are the most talked about things I have in my house on Halloween and trust me when I say they are IMPRESSIVE!!!
All you need for these is smarties, or jelly beans, or anything similar, clear plastic gloves and popcorn. I've been making these hands all my life and they're something I'll be making with my children in the future too.
All you do is pick out 5 smarties (or whatever you're using) in the same colour and place one smartie in each finger of the plastic glove. You then fill up the glove with popcorn and tie them at the top.. it's that easy!! I admit it can be quite time consuming and slightly frustrating trying to get the popcorn into the fingers but it's so worth the struggle, and trick or treaters love them!!!

3. Pumpkin Cake - This is the showstopper!! My pumpkin cake!! And yes okay, this is hard to do but so worth it!!
To make this cake though you will need a pumpkin shaped tray, I bought mine in Lidl for €3.99 a few years ago and the tin itself isn't very deep so I tend to make a round basic sponge cake and then place the pumpkin one on top...that's the easy part!!
Then you also need some ready to roll icing in orange, black and green. Roll out the orange so it's large enough to cover the entire cake and make sure it's smoothed out, I'd recommend getting someone else to help with this part too. I use a rolling pin then too ensure it's smooth all over. When it comes to the shape of the pumpkin face I use the tray as an outline and cut the shape of the face out in the black icing. Then finally roll out a piece of green icing for the stalk and you're done and dusted.
A bit of a process I know but look how great it is?!!

And there you have it, three basic things I love to make coming up to Halloween, I hope it's inspired you to get into the kitchen and try a couple of these things, and if you require any more assistance then let me know.

Happy Halloween!!

Top 10 Movies To Watch During October

IT'S OFFICIALLY OCTOBER!!!! which means it's almost my favourite day of the year, Halloween. I'm obsessed with Halloween and woke up this morning finding myself counting down the days until I can pull out the decorations and decorate the house.
Halloween is a time for fun and of course scaring yourself silly, here are my top ten movies that you need to watch during the month of October.

1. Hocus Pocus:

We can't begin the countdown without starting it with Hocus Pocus. One of my all time favourite movies and an essential watch 5,000 times over October. Incase you live under a rock, Hocus Pocus is a 'spooky' comedy about 'The Sanderson' sisters as they come back from the dead to hunt for all the children of Salem. It'll have you howling with laugher and it's an essential part of Halloween.  You can watch the trailer here:

2. Ouija:

I'm a bit weird but last year I developed a slight obsession with ouija boards, and although I would never personally do one when I heard there was a film about it I knew I had to watch it, so I gathered the troops and although we lost two throughout the film (the 'men' I might add) I loved the film and why not be terrified over Halloween??? You can watch the trailer for Ouija here:

 3.The Adam Family Values:

I am obsessed with the Adam's family and always have been so it came as a mega shock to me when one of my best friends had never heard of them. Actually, shocked wasn't the word more disgusted!! None the less, this Halloween I'll be forcing her to watch the movie with me. There's absolutely no better way than to get into the Halloween spirit than to relax and have a giggle with the Adam's family. Such an odd family but I love them, you can check out the trailer here:

4.Halloween Town:

It's the definition of Halloween and if you don't watch this over the Halloween season then there is something wrong with you. Okay so it won't make you quiver in your boots but Halloween is all about fun and this is nothing but a fun movie (plus you can watch it by yourself and not be terrified) watch the trailer here:

5. Chernobyl Diaries:

I've only seen this film once, and that one time was enough for me but trust me if you want a scare then this is the movie for you. It follows a group of friends who go on an extreme holiday to Chernobyl and end up getting trapped there.
I will be the first to admit I personally almost lost my life watching this movie and if you want the scare then this is a movie for you. If you're feeling brave you can watch the trailer here:

6. The Strangers:

The strangers was one of the first horror film I saw that I actually enjoyed and I've seen it at least a good fifteen times at this stage and trust me, it is fantastic!! It's creepy, scary, horrible, and yer man is a babe.. trust me, if you want a decent spook this Halloween then this is the film for you.
It's a story surrounding a couple who get harassed by three murderers in the most awful masks you will ever see, this film will legit have you on the side of your seat. Check out the trailer here:

7. The Visit :

The Visit is quite a new movie out having just been released this year but trust me, if you want a scare you need to see this movie. I recently went to see this in the cinema and wrote a review which you can read here. The film had me screaming and almost in tears and in tears from laughing it was such a great movie and trust me, you'll never guess what's coming next with it's shocking explosion towards the end.. I won't ruin it for you don't worry but just go watch it ;)

8. Twitches :

Regardless as to whether it's October or not, one of my all time favourite movie is Twitches, a Disney film but brings me back to my childhood and always puts the biggest smile on my face. It wouldn't be Halloween without twitches and my favourite song from Twitches (Aly and AJ - The Rush) (which is played from October 1st on repeat until November 1st) but this film, which okay won't scare the bejaysus out of you is an October essential,it's the story of twin witches (twitches..get it) who discover they're witches and have to help defeat the darkness in a magic land far away with the help of their guiders..look the more I explain it the more you'll judge me, just Twitches.... it's a must!! Watch the trailer here:  and then of course there's always Twitches 2 ;)

9. Jessable:

Jessabelle.. Jessabelle..Jessabelle..Jessabelle... where do I begin with Jessabelle? In extra vision one night trying to find a film to watch with the troops when we stumbled upon Jessabelle, none of us had ever heard of it before so we said we might aswell give it a go and sweet holy Mary mother of God was it scary!! I begged the lads to turn it off at one stage and I could never watch it again but you?.. yeah look go for it.
It's Halloween after all ;) Watch the trailer for this... thing, here:

10. You're Next:

And finally You're next, I saw this film once with my best friend and I have to say I think it was one of the best horror films I have ever seen, it was fantastic!! Nothing could prepare you for the shocking moments in this movie and although I only saw it once, I remember so much about it and trust me if you REALLY want a scare that badly, then this movie is for you!!
It's similar to the Strangers where it's more a murder and not so much a horror film but scary as hell!! - Check out the trailer here:

And there you have it ten movies I recommend you watch over the month of October, I mean what would Halloween be without a few jumps and spooks? ;)

The Truth Behind Hocus Pocus 2

‘The witch is back, and now there’s hell to pay’

SISTAHS! In 1993 something very special happened to our screens and that was the production of the classic film Hocus Pocus! Almost 22 years later it’s still one of my all time favourite films which is why I jumped with joy when I heard they were in the process of making a sequel to the movie. Could it be? could Disney be making my dreams come true? I couldn’t deal with not knowing so I went about doing research to find out if this was really going to happen, I mean it has too…

So here’s the full, truthful story, during the year Bette Midler (who plays the lead witch Winnie Sanderson) was asked if she would be interested in making a sequel to the extremely successful film and guess what, SHE’S IN… however, Disney… not so much!!
‘’You have to go send in your cards to the Walt Disney Company. The ball is in their court’
However Midler did go onto say that herself, and the rest of the cast do agree to make the movie… and from what I can make of it, it seems like she really wants this to happen.
‘’Inundate the Disney company, because I have canvassed the girls and they are willing to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ then ask the Walt Disney Company.’
So from here it seemed like my dreams had been crushed, the Sanderson sisters were in but Disney were not, but then my search deepened when I discovered Tina Fey was on board.. I know, I know this just gets better and better.
Tina picked up on Bette’s comments and decided she would produce a remake of the film. This was it, it was happening, I was about to scream with delight when I realised it was a rumour and Fey wasn't on board.
Yep, you heard me she’s not on board with the sequel so as it stands there’s no plan for a ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ - I know, sorry to break your heart but, get your pens out we’re writing to Disney!!

Halloween 2014

Dress up with my best friends.
There are many reasons why I wanted Halloween 2014 to be better than Halloween 2013, many reasons in which I can not share with you as I'm currently erasing the day from my memory but what I can tell you is  from November 1st last year I made a pledge to myself that this Halloween would have to be special, it would have to be magical and it would have to be the best Halloween night ever... it ehm, wasn't. But on the plus side it was a serious improvement from last year and the best part of the night was I got to spend it with six of my best friends.

Obviously Halloween wouldn't be Halloween without Hocus Pocus so first on my list, was to catch up on my annual movie.  I wrote about the movie slightly before so won't go into too much detail right now but just please, do yourself a favour and watch hocus pocus.
Trust me, nothing gets you into the spooky spirit like a little bit of Hocus Pocus, and if you aren't singing 'I put  a spell on you' by the end of the film, put it back in the DVD player and start again.
Next on the agenda to get myself into the Halloween spirit was to put on my fake pumpkin Halloween nails which I bought in penney's for €1.50. If you aren't in the Halloween spirit after Hocus Pocus AND pumpkin nails then I really do worry about your well being.
My Halloween pumpkin nails.

Next on the list was my annual ..

Horedible Hands....

'Horedible hands' are something in which I've made with my family for years and without them it really isn't Halloween. You take a plastic glove and place one smartie in each finger (act as fingernails) you then stuff the glove with popcorn and there you have it a 'horedible hand'. Trick Or Treaters go mad for these and they look ridiculously cool too.

Since I had the year to spend thinking about Halloween, and what I could do to make it special this year I decided I'd chance my arm at baking. I mean how hard could it be, I used to be a natural and I made the perfect cake the week before.
The time had come the night before and I rounded up the crew to put up decorations and help me bake, after listening to Michael Jackson 'Thriller' on repeat for hours we decided it was time to turn our hand to the baking. I was thinking about this for weeks and I had decided to go ahead and make 'pumpkin jelly' with 75% vodka (what it's Halloween) a pumpkin cake and spooky cupcakes. Easy enough yeah??....
My 'pumpkin' Jelly didn't go exactly to plan after it fell apart.
As for my pumpkin cake.... Well we're still trying to figure out why it exactly turned green, and I'd love to say this didn't happen me before but am... it did.
When my mam arrived home I was in a sorry state, I already had a green cake, flopped jelly and a black sake full of vile cupcakes. Not to mention I was almost out of butter and eggs. Tearing up and realising my Halloween was going to be crap because there was no pumpkin cake my mam took pity on me and we tried again.

Haleigh and myself.
Yes I know, talented. If anyone wants to book a homemade cake of me please leave a comment below. I joke, please don't ever make me bake again, but turned out pretty good huh.
What could possibly be left after all that excitement you may ask?
Well the party of course, the part of seven. Getting ready and watching my friend fail to put in her freaky contacts 7.000 made me laugh more than anything even if a stupid little child called me scrooge. Brat.
At 8O'Clock it was finally party time and I couldn't wait for a chill night with my friends.
There was no bonfire in my area which I won't lie did ruin it a bit for me, but Halloween this year really opened my eyes on how I may have took Halloween too serious and at the end of the day no one cared about my orange icing not perfectly smooth on my pumpkin we were just great friends having great fun and that's what Halloween is all about.
And on that note I'll sign off, until next year...
 HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!

Halloween

What Halloween means to me...

I'm crazily obsessed with Halloween, it's my favourite time of the year from the very first day in October it's Halloween .. Halloween ..Halloween. Ever since I was a little girl there was always something about Halloween that caught my attention, I don't know? I must of been a witch in my past life or something but there's always been something magical about Halloween.
I don't like horror movies, I don't practise pagan traditions, I'm terrified of ghostly things and I don't even like scary Halloween decorations, everything you'd associate with Halloween right? Well for me, it's completely different, that's not what Halloween is about.
From a young age, I mean eight/nine I've been looking into the history of Halloween (I'm a freak I know) but it's the most interesting thing I've ever researched, honestly.
Most Irish people don't even know Halloween started in Ireland, or why we go Trick Or Treating, or even why we actually celebrate 'Samhain', which is a pity and one day, I might even write a book about it but for now you'll have to do without.
(Well if you are interested in finding out about Halloween, I wrote about the history and you can check it out here  http://littlepieceoflynda.blogspot.com/2014/10/history-of-halloween.html?spref=tw)
(I can't even begin to start talking about what Halloween means to me without mentioning my favourite 'Halloween song' it's not even spooky and once again it's from the Disney channel movie 'Twitches' - An all time favourite film for me, but my Halloween is not Halloween without this film.. this song and film reminds me so much of my youth, going trick or treating, counting the pennies and even brings me back to spending Halloween night with my father watching the film, one song brings back so many smiles and good memories Exactly what I think of when Halloween comes into my head)

And whilst I'm on the topic of Halloween movies I think it's time I introduce you to the first 'real' thing that makes my Halloween complete and that is Hocus Pocus. If you haven't ever seen Hocus Pocus you need to take a long hard look at your life... I won't lie and say it's scary for everyone BUT.. I personally find the start very scary and don't like watching it on my own.. What? I told you I don't like scary stuff. But the film is amazing and a must see, the tree Sanderson sisters will have you howling!!
Not to mention I think I have the same personality as the witch Sarah, played by Sarah Jessica Parker... Well....
I'm pretty sure I've actually said this on a night out.
In my house we always went all out for Halloween, the garden, the hallway, the kitchen everywhere, so much so I used to be afraid coming down to use the toilet during the night. People would even take pictures of our garden when they pass. It's like a tradition we have. And there's ALWAYS a Halloween party to follow on Halloween night..
Pumpkins are always carved, and there's always 'witches toenails'- which are curly fries and 'Monster hands' - which are latex gloves filled up with popcorn and smarties in the fingers as the fingernails. There they are in a bowl on the kitchen table..cool huh.
One things for sure though, the decorations are never too scary..wouldn't want to scare the 'children' nothing to do with me, I swear!! As well as all that fun, there's bobbing for apples, swinging apple and even the 'who will win the ring from the barn breac' which all my family were aware that I used to have to win, look at my face though...How could I loose and not get married first???
I was way too scary for an eight year old.
Now that I'm older and the magic of Halloween should be dying off for me it isn't, weirdly it's getting stronger and stronger and I'm even thinking about what I'll dress my children up as for Halloween (In the next twenty years mam don't worry) but I think that Halloween does change a lot from when you're young. It's up to you though if you let that magic fade.
For me, Halloween isn't about getting spooked or messing or drinking (but yes I'm at that age where I'll be drinking for Halloween) but Halloween for me is about the fun, the mystery the magic. When I picture Halloween in my head I'm straight back to that eight year old out trick or treating with my friend (before she swung her bucket upside down and loosing all her sweets) that old woman who always gave us apples and even that one house that used to give us €1. Halloween is all about magic and fun and laughter.. Best day of the year!!
